What is the Fellows Program?

The hackNY Fellows Program is a summer-long coliving experience for full-time higher-education tech interns.

Community: hackNY is a growing community of socially-conscious tech professionals with hundreds of alumni from our program. hackNY brings together different experiences and interests to form a unique community of thoughtful, inclusive individuals. Fellows integrate themselves into this community through our curated Speaker Series, mixers, and our annual Demo Night celebration.

13 Years of Success

We recently completed our 13th fellowship class! There are now more than 300 alumNY who have built their careers in tech with the hackNY Fellows program.

AlumNY have gone to become founders, early-stage startup employees, and other leaders in tech across the United States. Most are concentrated in New York City and The Bay Area in California. Smaller groups of alumNY also live in Boston, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

What’s new for hackNY?

In the Summer of 2023, we re-envisioned the Fellows program by reflecting on our past 13 years of hackNY. We surveyed our alumNY community and realized that the most direct value-add we offered was providing a community that lived and learned together. We decided to double down on community housing and change our program’s focus to provide the best living and learning experience possible.

We are continuing that model in the Summer of 2024. This means that we now require all Fellows to have secured internships before issuing formal acceptance into hackNY. We will place Fellows in communal housing in the heart of NYC at a heavily discounted rate, competitive with any other intern housing program. We will continue to develop our curated Speaker Series, community events, etc.

Applicants without secured internships are still welcome to apply. In these cases, we will screen applicants for technical competency, before providing best-effort support to match promising applicants with our partner companies. Our portfolio consists of companies that deliver impactful technology and provide a strong mentoring environment.

The hackNY Fellows program will continue to provide an inclusive community space for talented technical students to live together, build their personal and professional network, and receive industry-grade mentorship - all in the effort to empower the next generation of responsible technologists in NYC.
